I HATE PEOPLE WHO ANONYMOUSLY COMMENT ONLINE!!!
OK, so you are surfing the web and you come across a news story... ooorrrr a blog post... that you don't agree with. Well, might as well log on and make ridiculous comments about the story or post. After all, nobody will ever know that it was me who made the post! For the most part that may be true. If someone cares enough to find out who you are, it can be done, but why hide your identity in the first place?
I have had a few posters here that I am quite certain know me, yet they still post anon, I guess for fear that I may disagree with their comments. I have to question why anyone would make a comment if they are afraid that somebody might know THEY wrote it...
I don't particularity care what anyone thinks of my opinions or how I present them. I actually enjoy debating my point of view, so if you don't like what I have to say, let me know! If I hurt your feelings with something I write, perhaps you should have a thicker skin. You should know that if I am writing about you... you WILL know it. I will make it very clear that I am writing about you and only you.
Now on to my next blog...
I HATE PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT ALL "SOLDIERS" ARE HEROES!
I was driving on the 401 a few weeks ago and heard a song on the radio called Highway of Heroes. I have to admit that driving on that highway and listening to that song made me a little nauseous.
As I rolled down the highway, I got to thinking... what does it take to be a hero?
Seems to me that all it takes to be a hero in todays society is to wear a green uniform. It doesn't matter if you are a womanizer, cheater or a booze hound. It doesn't matter if the most heroic thing you have ever done is sit in the back of a truck in the desert and not get blown up. Am I saying that there are no heroes in the military? Absolutely NOT! What I am saying is it takes more then putting on a uniform to be a hero.
In my life I have lived next to 2 separate military bases. One thing that I know for a fact - Most people in the military did not sign up to "serve" their country. Some convince themselves of the incredible sacrifices they are making in service of something greater, but the truth is, they are either in it for the $$$ or they are in it because they LOVE it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with either of those 2 reasons for being in the military. Just don't try to convince yourself or others of the great sacrifice you are making because it is BULLSHIT! You want to make a sacrifice for your country, do it for free (Hell, Rambo never asked to be paid!)... now that is a sacrifice!
I can understand that some of you are going to throw the "well they are heroes because they put their lives on the line every day" song and dance my way. To that I have to ask, are linesmen heroes? What about minors? Carpenters???
Every day when a linesman climbs a pole, a minor descends into a mineshaft, a carpenter climbs a ladder, they are putting their lives on the line. How about a trucker, pizza delivery person or a taxi driver? More people die in car accidents in a week than have died this year in Afghanistan. Hell, according to unitedjustice.com, An average of 114 people die each day in car crashes in the U.S. Maybe we should give the pizza guy a medal of honour for not dying... think of the sacrifice he makes to ensure you get your pizza hot and on time!
In my opinion, a hero is someone who of their free will chooses to do something good with no ulterior motives. They do it not because it is fun or rewarding, but because it is the right thing to do. Do some military personnel fall into this category? They sure do. Perhaps there are more people in the military that fall into this category then any other profession, but just because they wear the uniform and do the job they are paid to do, doesn't make them heroes.

Not to detract form the sentiment of the post but I am pretty sure Rambo was a Green Barret Serving in Korea and various other places for 10-15 years. He comes back and is shunned by soceity which is the basic premise of the movie. The last one though, that all all moxy and piss and vinegar!
sorry Green Beret, not Barret like the company I work for ;)
The first was for himself, the second was for his country. The third time was for his friend.
Rambo went on the second mission to save POWs and the 3rd to help his friend. In the new Rambo, it was for a chick.
Sure, in First Blood, you couldn't call him a hero, but in the others, he was being selfless. Even when saving the chick, he knew she was not going to be with him and he did it anyway. He was a real (fictional) hero!
