Typically I start each blog with stating something I hate (or "love" in a few cases). This time I have decided to do it a little bit different. If you are wondering if this blog is directed towards someone in particular, the answer is a resounding yes. Typically, I would directly address an individual in my post so it was clear that I am writing about them. This time I will not name the individual. This person believes that every post on social media is some kind of veiled insult to them. Well let me lift the veil... This is about you (you know who you are).
Ok, now that the formalities are out of the way, let us begin. I love my daughter (I know, this is not supposed to be about loving people and since my daughter is all grown up now, she no longer qualifies as a little dream-stealer who is not really a person). While my daughter will still steal many future dreams from me, I think that for now, I can take her out of the dream-stealer category.
Back to it.. My daughter is a very well spoken and intelligent young lady. She is also very opinionated and is not shy about letting people know how she feels about things (I think she gets that from her mother).
Last evening she saw a post Facebook which referred to women as hoes based on the fact that the women they were referring to were scantly dressed and were partying. The post went on to say that these women (who are apparently not "good women") attract loser men with their lifestyle. There is also an insinuation that these women deserve to be with losers.
I am quite proud that my daughter commented very intelligently on the post. She pointed out that shaming women based on a photo is wrong and adds to the problem of blaming women for being in abusive or controlling relationships. Now in reading that, I have to say that it seems like a pretty well thought out and mature point of view on the issue.
It seems to me that people who post controversial things on social media should expect some differing opinions (I never post anything controversial so everyone always agrees with me! Of course that is because I am always right). I guess I am incorrect in assuming this because the individual who posted the afore mentioned controversial social media post, rather than accepting the different opinion like an adult and moving on or having an intelligent back and forth on the subject, decided to double down on the post and proceeded to belittle my daughter because apparently my daughter lives in a land of rainbows and unicorns and is far too young to have an opinion.
After hearing this, I was so intrigued with this magical unicorn-ie land that I just had to visit my daughter and see what this land is like!
Let me tell you, this land far better than Cookie Land and a million times better than Fuckity-Offity-Ville! As grand as this land is, there is evil lurking around every corner. If you are a maiden and your corset shows, you better be prepared for shitty people to be attracted to you. Heaven help you if you have a mead or 2... More shitty people will magically be drawn to you until you are simply covered with shitty people. The fact is, young maiden, that if you wear certain clothing or have a good time, you too are a "shitty" person.
Luckily in Rainbow and Unicorn Land there exists a magical button. This button may be used by only the bravest of knights and maidens in the kingdom. Caution should be exercised when using this mystical, magical button. The button has a strange name... "BLOCK". This button releases the brave knight or maiden from all the negativity in the kingdom. Caution, however, should be exercised when using the button. It's magic can affect more than just the knight or maiden who uses it. If the evil that the button is used against may be magically redirected toward others. This is only a risk if the evil is extremely petty, jealous and childish. Redirected evil reads negativity into social media posts that are innocently entered by others in the kingdom. This evil then may lash out at the kingdom and remove those closest to the maiden or knight from all future social media correspondence with the evil.
Alas, there is a bright side to all of this. The evil does not realize that it's blanket removal of those closest to the knight or maiden frees them from the bonds of negativity that shacked them for so long. So block away brave knights and maidens! Life is too short for evil to reign in the kingdom. Frankly, we need more rainbows and unicorns!
